Flora
La vegetación que se aprecia en la zona también está con relación a la altitud, y a la época del año. Por debajo de los 2,600 de altura se encuentra una vegetación clasificada como matorral inerme, pastizal natural, nopal, garambullo, pitahaya, piñón, maguey, tapona, huisache, pirul y pingüica, y las zonas que se encuentran por arriba de esta altitud cuentan con una vegetación boscosa de tipo siempre verde como el pino, eucalipto, foliculada, encino y el oyamel.
En la parte más alta y abrupta se desarrolla el único bosque de oyamel (Abies religiosa) claramente definido y casi puro, donde además se observan algunos árboles como Alnus jorullensis (aile), Pinus roáis (ocote), populus tremuloídes (álamo), Quercus laurina (encino) y Q. rugosa (encino).
A nivel de arbustos de han registrado Bacchans zamoranensis, Brickelfia nutanticeps, Chimephíla umbeliate,Eupatonum glabratum, Salvia elegans, S. microphylla, Satureja laevigata Senecio engulifolius y S. barba johannis. En las porciones bajas de esta zona y en forma de rodales dispersos se encuentra algunos encinos.
Estos, son casi arbustivos, de 3 a 6 m de alto, y de hoja pequeña. Esta área representa una zona alta de endemísmos, La parte alta de este macizo montañoso
aislado alberga un conjunto de especies de distribución restringida, como Arracacía
mcvaughii, Bacchans zamoranensis, Circium zamorenense, Rubus mcvaughianus, Mammíllana droegeana, M durispína, M. kelleriana, M microhelia, M. ocotillensis y M.
petterssonii.
Fauna
La fauna silvestre cuenta con: conejos, liebres, ardillas, tlacuaches, zorrillos, mapaches, zorras, coyotes y gatos monteses. En las zonas altas se tiene la presencia de venado cola blanca, ciervo rojo, puma; en aves hay palomas, codornices, diversos pájaros, cuitlacoches, cenzontle, calandria, dominicos, gorrión rojo, gorrión azul, urracas, tordos cuervos, auras, gavilanes, aguilillas, lechuzas, búhos, gallaretas, patos, garzas, tildios, cormoranes, perros de agua, gaviotas
De los insectos, hay muestras de grillos, cucarachas, chapulines, tantarrias, chicharras, libélulas, avispas, jicotes, abejas, guarichos, tal panal, moscos y moscas, arañas, zancudos, etc.
Existe una gran variedad de animales de tipo salvaje y domestico, destacando dentro del primer grupo a la ardilla, liebre, zorro, coyote, tecolote, zorrillo, serpientes, venados, ocelote, aves de diversas especies e innumerables insectos, algunas de estas especies se encuentran en peligro de extinción debido a la escasez de alimento y por los asentamientos humanos.
Dentro del segundo grupo destacan perros, gatos, ganado caprino, bovino, porcino, equino, asnar y aves de corral.
